  • Female suicide rate: 27% of total (206 out of 762 suicides)

 

  • Male suicide rate: 73% of total (556 out of 762 suicides), nearly 3 times the rate of females

 

  • Higher suicide rates in Highland, Dundee City, East Ayrshire, and Perth and Kinross council areas compared to the Scottish average

 

  • Over the last 30 years, male suicide rate consistently ~3 times higher than female rate

 

  • Average age at death by suicide increased from 41.9 years in 2000 to 48.2 years in 2022

 

  • Suicide rate 2.6 times higher in the most deprived areas compared to the least deprived areas in Scotland
